Eye Candy

So, I'm due for another One Paragraph Book Review, but the most recent book I read (finished today!!) was Extras, the final book in Scott Westerfeld's Uglies series.  I thought it might just seem too obsessive if my first two reviews were from the same author.  So, instead of a review today, I'm going to list some of my favourite books.  Not all of them are young adult.  I tend to read like...anything.

  • The Red Tent
  • The Bean Trees
  • Pride and Prejudice
  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
  • Middlesex
  • Island of the Blue Dolphins
  • The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
  • Sing Down the Moon
  • The Time Traveler's Wife
  • My Sister's Keeper
  • The Memory Keeper's Daughter
  • The Kite Runner
  • A Fine Balance
  • The Outsiders
  • The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie
I think 15 is enough for now.  What are some of your favourite books of all time?  What are some books you're wondering about?  If I've read them, I'd be happy to write up a One Para review just for you, dear readers!

(Maybe when I get around to it, I'll do 2 reviews to make up for this lapse!)

  2. I have not read any from your list! wow shows how much time I don't have to read now! We didn't do pride and prejudice at school, but we did read A Passage to India and also To Kill a Mocking Bird - both very powerful books. I actually managed to pick up the latter from a car boot sale so will be picking that up again for a read.

I had thought about The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo so like Ellie suggests perhaps a review on this?

I am a stickler for all things pointless when it comes to books. My favourite author is Wendy Holden and I am currently reading Filthy Rich. Have you read anything by this author? Also most books by Sophie Kinsella, India Knight, Jodi Picoult, Cecilia Ahern.

However I would like to broaden my horizons so if you can put me in the right direction to a fab read - then please do.

Signing off with a smile. :)

  3. Ellie: I've heard that A thousand splendid suns was great! What did you think?

abz: If you like Jodi Picoult, My Sister's Keeper is by her. It's the only one of her books I've read and I cried through a whole 3 hr plane ride while reading it. but it was great!

You might also like The Memory Keeper's Daughter. It has the same kind of tearjerking tone. :)

  4. Ahhh I thought I recognised the name of the book when reading it, I saw that in the shop a while back on special offer and I wanted to get it, relunctantly I didn't because I still didn't have the right pennies on me! I have however read Salem Falls which is a wonderful book, and is quite tear jerky in some places too so if you want a good read I would recommend it :) This is the only book I have read by Jodi, and one wonders why I haven't managed to read anymore because although they can be alot of effort to get into to start off with, once I did it was quite gripping.

Something tells me that once I have finished reading my Wendy Holden I will be getting down the library! The Memory Keepers Daughter looks a good read so that may well be top of my list (although I should have tissues at the ready by the sounds of it. Just googled it!).

  5. Yes a thousand splendid suns is good, very sad, powerfully written and touching. I would recommend a read.

Yes I also found my sisters keeper a weepy one although the film didn't make me cry at all as I was so mad that they had changed the ending from the book! (I always prefer the book though)

Another good one from Jodi Picolt Abz is Faith, thats quite good.

  6. Ahhh thanx Ellie! Actually I was in the supermarket yesterday and she has a latest one out called picture perfect which looked quite good too. Too many books, not so much time, thats my problem!

Marian Keyes is also a good author for me. :) Oh gosh I just keep adding to the list! :D
